Chapter 2 Key Public Building

There are generally 3 key public buildings in Dusun Tua, namely the AL Mutaqqin Mosque, Darul Hidayah Surau, and a community hall.

However, we choose to document on Darul Hidayah Surau. Darul Hidayah is actually a village located within the Batu 16 ½ of Kampung Dusun Tua. Darul Hidayah was a small settlement that dated back to year 1986 and their original Surau was built through the donations collected from the villagers and other parties. However, this settlement has gotten bigger as it now accommodates 200 houses.

Hence, a new Surau is needed not only due to the tremendous increase in population but also due to the original Surau which is in an aging condition.

Hence, a new proposal for the new Surau was come up with and a fund raising organization was created in 28th June 2009 with this ceremony being officiated by YB Nasharudin Mat Isa. The cost for the construction of the new Surau is estimated to be at a minimum of RM 1 million which explains the incomplete construction even after 4 years due to lack of funding. The Surau is currently incomplete due to the absence of floor tiles, carpeting and final finishes.

The new Surau is said to feature a praying hall, a study room and a meeting room, not forgetting a much better audio system. An enhanced audio system is fundamental for this building due to its secondary role as a gathering arena among the villagers should any discussions be carried out. However, due to its almost completed form, we are still able to figure out is elevations if not its exploded axonometric.

The surau is one of the key public building in Kampung Dusun Tua because it is the prayer hall for the villagers. As majority of the villagers are muslim, praying is one of their daily activity that is of top priority. The surau is where the villagers gather for religious meeting, lessons and also for prayer. It is important that the surau is built with much considerations, for the convenience and the comfort of the villagers, and also in respect to their God.
